I wrote this in March of 2022, in my final year of high school, months before the world had typed a single word into ChatGPT. It was my Advanced English research paper, and I gave it a bold title: "Artificial Intelligence: The Future of Mankind."
I return to it now with a strange unease. Most of what I set down, the promise and the peril, the reshaping of work, the ethics, the old question of whether a machine could ever carry a conscience, has held. I was young and guessing in the dark. Yet those guesses still form the frame through which I read this technology today, now that I build inside it for a living.
Here it is, unedited. I blacked out a few identifying details and left the argument untouched. Leave your email and read the whole of it.
